If you would like to direct a domain address that you have to some other domain name or subdomain, one way to do this would be to use a CNAME record. By creating such a record, the domain address being forwarded loses all its records (A, MX, and so forth) and instead, it takes the A record of the Internet domain it is directed to. That way, if you use a web design service by some provider that gives you a subdomain, you can use an actual domain and not only will it be directed to the Internet site which you have set up, but it'll also be displayed in the Internet browser address bar at all times. Other possible uses of a CNAME record are to direct all the targeted traffic from different subdomains to their main Internet domain, or to use the webmail service of your webhosting company by using webmail.your-doman.com, for instance. The latter will work only by setting up a CNAME record for a subdomain because such a record set up for the main domain name makes it impossible to use email addresses.

CNAME Records in Hosting

You can easily create CNAME records in case you have a Linux hosting from our company. We will provide you with an easy-to-use CP where you can observe all DNS records for the domain names and subdomains that are hosted within the account. Creating a CNAME record requires several simple steps - choose the domain/subdomain, select CNAME as the type, type in the hostname you are pointing to, then simply click the Save button. The process is as basic as that and the new record is going to be active almost instantly. That way, you will have more control over your domains and subdomains and over the content they open, you can create a private URL for company e-mails, and much more. If you feel uncertain about how to set up a new record or you have never done such a task, we have a short video tutorial where you could see the whole process first-hand. If you choose to change or delete an existing CNAME record created for a domain/subdomain hosted on our end, it'll require literally simply a click to do it.

CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting

Managing DNS records usually seems to be a difficult task to those with less experience, but the Hepsia hosting Control Panel, which comes with each and every Linux semi-dedicated hosting that we offer, is very simple to use. If you need to create a CNAME record for any purpose, all you will need to do will be to choose the domain or subdomain that you need, select the type of record, which will be CNAME in this case, then enter the value i.e. the domain or subdomain you are forwarding to. The procedure is very easy and you can set up the record in the DNS Records section of the Control Panel. Within the hour the new record is going to be 100 % active and within a couple of hours it is going to propagate around the globe. If you are not sure what you have to do, we've prepared a detailed help article and a short video tutorial regarding how to go about creating a CNAME record and they are both located within that very same section of Hepsia. Of course, you can also get in touch with us for help anytime.
